Deck Building Guide
Lorcana Deck Building Rules Explained
Every legal Disney Lorcana deck follows three core rules. Learn them once, and the rest of deck building is strategy — especially if your tools check legality for you.
The three core rules
- At least 60 cards. There's no maximum, but competitive players stay at exactly 60 — every extra card dilutes your best draws.
- At most 4 copies of any card with the same full name. The full name is what counts: you can run 4× Elsa – Snow Queen and 4× Elsa – Spirit of Winter in the same deck, because they're different cards.
- Up to 2 ink colors. Choose two of the six inks — Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel — and every card in the deck must belong to one of them.
Formats: where your deck is legal
Core Constructed
The standard competitive format. Alongside the core rules, only cards from the current rotation are legal — as of July 24, 2026, that means Sets 9–13 (Fabled through Attack of the Vine!). Rotation happens once a year, so a Core-legal deck needs an occasional checkup.
Infinity Constructed
The eternal format: every set ever printed is legal (minus the ban list). If you loved a deck that rotated out of Core, it lives on in Infinity.
Casual & Triple Deck
Kitchen-table play doesn't need rotation rules, and Triple Deck is a lighter event format played with smaller decks. Both are great ways to use more of your collection.
Beyond legal: what makes a deck good
- Watch your ink curve. A deck full of expensive cards does nothing in the early turns. Aim for a curve that lets you play something meaningful every turn.
- Keep enough inkable cards. Uninkable cards can't be placed into your inkwell — too many, and you'll stall on resources.
- Build around a plan. Quest aggressively, control the board, or ramp into bombs — pick one and make every card serve it.
Let the app do the bookkeeping
Ink Well Keeper validates all of this while you build: deck size, copy limits, ink identity, and format legality for Core, Infinity, and Triple Deck — with live errors and warnings as you add cards.
- Create a deck and pick your format — validation is instant and always on.
- Watch the cost curve chart as you build, and check the missing cards list to see exactly what you still need to pull or buy (with prices).
- Because your collection is already tracked, the builder knows which cards you own.
- Stuck at 43 cards? AI deck completion (Pro) fills your deck to a legal 60 that fits your strategy, and the AI strategy guide explains your deck's strengths and gaps.
- Export or share the finished list — including as a QR code friends can import in one tap.
